Creative Lab Syllabus

Level: Intermediate

Prerequisite: Illustrators and Illustrator-Authors with two or more published illustrated books or picture books who are ready to take their career to the next level.

Description: Once you are published, what’s next? This Creative Lab will help you re-evaluate your work, re-define your goals, explore other professional possibilities and plan a thriving and resilient career.

Objective:

Level Up Your Career

  • Align your work and career goals with the current marketplace
  • Build your personal brand to serve both short term and long term goals
  • Cultivate career-expanding relationships with creative and business partners
  • Find alternate income streams to help navigate the highs and lows of freelance life
  • Understand the consequences of contract terms, advances and marketing plans 

Break Through Creative and Mental Blocks

  • Self-assess what makes you and your work unique
  • Challenge yourself through experimentation, workshops, and play
  • Find inspiration in unexpected placed and create your own opportunities
  • Develop your support network

Make Your Challenges Work for You!

During the last part of this session, we will analyze a selection of participants’ work and their challenges, and offer ideas for their next step.

Pre-Conference Assignment - Complete the form found HERE and upload the following by Jan 15, 2024:

  • A link to your website
  • A one page pdf with 5 pieces of your strongest narrative work that aligns with your career goals
  • A 75-word statement to describe the career block you're facing (no more than three issues please!)

At the end of the session, you will have a chance to start a post-conference toolbox to activate the next step of your career.
