California: Central Coastal

The Society of Children’s Book Writers & Illustrators Central-Coastal California Region provides programs and services for Ventura, Santa Barbara, San Luis Obispo and Kern counties. We are a warm and welcoming group focused on craft and professional support. Programs include an annual Writers’ Day and Writers’ Retreat, Illustrators events, along with numerous workshops, critique opportunities, and free mingle events in each county for networking.

REGISTRATION IS NOW OPEN! ** Recharge your writing life with some vitamin sea. Enjoy writing time, meditative beach walks, inspiring 10-minute TED-style talks, campfire chats, delicious meals, networking with professional children's writers, and optional critique group sessions, all beside the ocean. January 19-21, 2024 at The Cavalier Oceanfront Resort in San Simeon.

***THIS EVENT HAS OCCURRED*** Join us for Writers’ Day Saturday, September 9, 2023, 9:30am to 3:30pm at the Camarillo Library. *** You’ll enjoy speakers, prizes, coffee/pastries and catered lunch, photo opportunities, and a chance to mingle with other writers and illustrators. *** Check out our amazing lineup of keynote speakers and inspirational spotlight speakers--including Lin Oliver, Melissa Manlove, Jennifer Rofe, Jaime Zollars and more! *** Optional Add-On (while supply lasts: Choice of either a live 10-minute Zoom Pitch ($50) on Sunday September 10 with an Agent or Editor--or a Written Critique ($55) by an Editor handed to you at the end of our September 9th event. (Add-ons available only to those registered for the above 9/9/23 in-person conference.)
