Keynote Speaker: Jaïra Placide, Assistant Editor, HarperCollins, author of Fresh Girl, winner 2002 Golden Kite Award
This year, Southern Breeze went coast to coast to line up a slate of inspiring speakers for our lucky thirteenth fall conference. Whether you're renting extra space to store rejection slips or raking in rave reviews, we have workshops perfect for you!
Jaïra Placide will start the day with her keynote address: "What Makes a Good Children's Book?" Afterward, she and our other guest editors, Summer Laurie (Tricycle Press), Marilyn Edwards (Hopscotch for Girls, Boys' Quest, and Fun For Kidz), and Dianne Hamilton (OnStage Publishing) will lead workshops covering picturebooks, nonfiction articles, illustration, voice, and those all-important inside tips. Literary agent Liza Voges (Kirchoff/Wohlberg) will answer questions about the role an agent can play in your career.
Perfect your craft with tips from authors Faye Gibbons, Diane Z. Shore, Melanie Jones, and author/illustrator Chris Rumble. Find out how you can benefit from copyrights in attorney/author Lee Wilson's workshop, and learn about journalism from Carol Mader, founder of Real News for Real Kids.
Due to sickness Babs Bell Hajdusiewicz will not be speaking at the conference. Faye Gibbons and Diane Z. Shore have stepped forward and will do workshops on poetry and picture book writing.
Friday night's dessert social is included in your conference fee. Join your fellow Breezers at the Drury Inn & Suites for pre-conference networking. Meet, greet, and enjoy something sweet!
