Conference Faculty

Marilyn Edwards, Editor of Hopscotch Magazine for Girls, Boys' Quest, and Fun For Kidz Magazines and CEO for the Bluffton News Publishing and Printing Company. Marilyn has a bachelor and master's degree in music from Bowling Green State University. She has taught ages from kindergarten through seniors in college, currently an adjunct professor, Bluffton College.

Faye Gibbons is the author of fiction and nonfiction for both adults and young readers.  Her books for children range from picture books to novels and biographies for middle grade students.  She is presently working on a young adult novel.  Many of her settings draw on the north Georgia mountains where she was born and raised.  Her awards and honors include an American Library Association "best book" recognition, a Library Guild selection, Smithsonian best book choice, Sesame Street Parent best book list, and the Alabama Children's Book Award.  Faye Gibbons now lives near Montgomery, Alabama with her husband and their dog, Bo. They have two grown sons and two grandchildren.

Dianne Hamilton, Senior Editor, OnStage Publishing, a small children's press located in Decatur, AL. An English major from Auburn, she worked many jobs [portrait photographer, sales, teacher] before finding her niche as an editor. She has edited several award-winning general fiction e-books before coming to the print world of children's fiction.

Melanie Davis Jones, author of Pigs Rock! and several Rookie Readers. She holds a Specialist degree in Elementary Education and works with struggling readers.

Summer Dawn Laurie, Senior Editor, Tricycle Press, began her story in the San Francisco Bay Area, graduating with an English degree from UC Berkeley. After an eye-opening stint as an account executive, she set her sights on the world of book publishing. At Chronicle Books, she worked in both the marketing and editorial departments. In 2000 she crossed the bay to join TP.

Carol Mader, Publisher of Real News for Real Kids, author of six books; a phonics series for Creative Teaching Press, Emotion Explosion, Crazy Clothesline Characters, and Kids' Travel Guide, contributing author to 12 books, over 100 articles, poems, songs.

Jaïra Placide, Assistant Editor at HaperCollins, author of Fresh Girl and winner of the SCBWI Golden Kite Award. She was a contributing writer in the developmental stages of Bill Cosby's animated Nickelodeon series, "Little Bill".

Chris Rumble, author/illustrator of a new series entitled The Adventures of Uncle Stinky: The Good, the Bad and the Smelly, Stink Trek, and Moby Stink (Tricycle Press). Chris has received over seventy-five invitations from schools and libraries. As the "Reading Guitar Man," Chris has more fun than ought to be allowed in schools.

Diane Z. Shore's first picture book, Bus-A-Saurus Bop (Bloomsbury, 2003) was awarded a 2004 Children's Choice Award. She has eight forthcoming books including two series with HarperCollins.

Liza Pulitzer-Voges, Agent, Kirchoff Wohlberg, for 20 years. Works with authors and author/illustrators including Lois Ehlert, Sucie Stevenson, Keith Graves, Dan Gutman, Gloria Whelan, and Alyssa Satin Capucilli.

Lee Wilson, property lawyer, author of the third edition of The Copyright Guide: A Friendly Guide to Protecting and Profiting from Copyrights and several other books on property law.
