I've been illustrating children's books since 1978, and occasionally writing them. I've had the good fortune to work with amazing authors like Beverly Cleary, Lore Segal, and Emily Jenkins. And the good fortune for some books of mine to become very successful. Among other things, I've been awarded the Caldecott Medal for my retelling of "Rapunzel," and the Caldecott Honor three times before that. I sometimes review children's books for the New York Times Book Review, and I am honored to sit on the SCBWI Advisory Council.
